With all the Sporting Events we've still had time to get some new Slate Tiles in our Showroom. Our Our Riven Slate Oyster, which has a lovely mellow colour, was popular in June. Of the Marbles, one of my favourites is the cool looking Marble Nero, which is a highly polished marble with a deep black background. We've added some new Tumbled wall tiles to our range, check out the 'brick pattern' style, this has been really popular for Kitchens and Bathrooms and seems to be in all the Home and Lifestyle magazines.
For Summer 2010 we have launched some new Limestone products, click here to see them.

Kind regards, Charley Stone Works Ltd PS - Click here to see our full range of Slate Tiles - Riven and Honed slate (Smooth) | | | What's the difference between Marble and Slate tiles or Honed and Filled? Here at Stoneworks we often get asked about the different types of stone. Here's a short reference guide to explain the different types of stone and their attributes. If we have missed something then please get in touch and we'll add it to our guide! Slate tiles for floors and walls - a real versatile stone Slate is metamorphosed shale. Shale is made up of silt and clay that is similar in composition to sandstone except that the particle size is much smaller. The shale is subject to heat and pressure and the fine particles are melted together to form slate. Click here to view natural riven slate tiles but click here to view honed slate tiles. Limestone for stone floors and wall tiles A limestone is a sedimentary rock. It is made up of layers of calcium carbonate formed from the accumulation of organic matter in shallow seas, which is then turned to stone by millions of years of pressure. Limestone's come in a variety of density and hardness and some rare limestones are as tough as granite. Click here to view our limestone range of tiles Travertine tiles for stone floors and walls Travertine is also a sedimentary rock, which is made up of layers of calcite formed from the accumulation of organic matter in hot springs and spa areas. The stone has a natural honeycomb structure, where water has flowed through the material. Travertine is a very strong stone, which when cut into tiles exposes the small holes on the surface. These holes can be left unfilled to leave a natural texture or they are filled in the quarry or factory with a very hard resin and honed smooth. Small holes may appear on the surface of the tiles over time; this is part of the charm of this ancient stone. Click here to view our range of natural travertine stone and floor tiles. Marble for stone flooring and walls - Perfect for Bathrooms and Kitchens Marble is a metamorphic rock and started its life as limestone, which is then crystallised by immense heat and pressure. Marble obtains its different colours from the minerals and chemical elements in the stone. Click here to view our marble flooring range. Granite tiles for floors and wall tiles - A hard stone perfect for high-traffic areas, including hallways and kitchens. Granite is an igneous rock, which means that they have been formed from liquid magma deep under the earth's crust, which has slowly cooled over a long period of time. Granite is a very hard stone, which can take a polish and has a low porosity; it should still be sealed for ease of maintenance. Click here for granite floor and wall tiles. Tumbled Limestone tiles for interior and external use. This is a great stone for use in Bathrooms and Kitchens. Tumbled Limestone is subtly aged by a tumbling action; removing the sharp edges and face to provide an extremely hard wearing product. Without the slipperiness of polished marble this stone is perfect for areas where water is in use (Wetrooms and Kitchen areas) or where a rustic feel is required (Period home renovations). Click here for natural, tumbled limestone - perfect for floors and walls. Sandstone for walls and floors Sandstone is composed essentially of cemented grains of sand, sandstone has a granular texture and is the second most abundant of all sedimentary rock, shale being the first. In addition to quartz, sandstone may consist of sand sized particles of calcite, gypsum or various iron compounds. Click here for riven sandstone tiles (including flag stones).
